“Porous Bodies” is part of a long-term research project that considers the geological kinship and the slippery intimacies of capitalism through the entanglements of mining in the Democratic Republic of Congo and mining in the Deep-Sea. This installation uses rock samples from each site to create a hand assembled, cameraless 16mm film with resulting optical sound.

The installation asks: what does it mean to remove these samples from circulation? The act of crushing them is an act of transformation, releasing them from a world of speculative assessment. How does removing them from systems of valuation, pulverizing them, dispersing them and inviting them to be something else change our relationship to them? Something like a refusal, something like putting them to rest.
