An elegy for the last Yangtze giant soft shell turtle and the river delta it once called home.

"The World is its Memory" charts the path of the Yangtze giant soft shell turtle from its first known incarnations to the Suzhou Zoo where the last of the species remains in conservation. Through poetic interpretations of scientific field methods and creation stories, this experimental documentary reflects on species loss in the anthropocene and the damage done by capitalism's infinite growth model.

“The World is its Memory” was made in collaboration with Xuancheng Chen and Xu Yan.
